Irene Country Lodge

This morning I was invited to breakfast at Irene Country Lodge to celebrate my friend, Shendl's birthday.

It was an absolutely lovely morning and we really did feel like we were out in the country. There was a little dam which made a great view and it had a lot of bird life around it. Black swans, ducks, Egyptian geese and other birds made up the menagerie. This makes it a great place for kids too as they get to feed all these birds. There's also a little play area, jumping castle and baby sitter so they are very well looked after and entertained.

The buffet costs R210 per person and is the best breakfast I have been to.

They had absolutely everything from fresh fruit, yoghurts, muesli, cheeses and pastries to the hot breakfast foods like bacon, baked beans, spicy chicken livers, sausages, mushrooms etc. A chef awaited your egg orders which he quickly prepared whilst you filled up your plate from the delicious spread.

Being on a paleo diet I was a bit concerned that my choices may be limited. I had two plate fulls of food, with at least five different foods on each plate! The variety and quality of the food really was impressive. We were served tea and coffee as well as having the option to try a number of fruit juices.
The service was excellent. Our tea and coffee pots were never empty and our plates were quickly removed after we were eating. All the staff were very friendly and efficient.

The country setting was just so relaxed and refreshing. I really enjoyed being in the outdoors. It's a welcomed environment from the busy city life most of us live. I'd recommend Irene Country Lodge for a quiet breakfast or lunch as well as a bigger function as they cater for large groups very well. There's a lovely little deck that overlooks the dam, I'd recommend booking this area for daytime functions to really soak in the countryside!

I hope you are all having as lovely a weekend as I am,

Fawn
