Cafe del Sol Botanico & The Landmark Cocktail Bar

I have been dying to try out Cafe del Sol Botanico for quite a while now and I was lucky enough to be invited to an exclusive media tasting!

This gorgeous restaurant is in the new Bryanston Shopping Centre and is a tribute to nature. The decor oozes freshness and the nature theme is very evident throughout. The serviettes, quirky upside down flower pots everywhere, trees in the centre of tables and fresh orchids scattered around all add to the natural feel. It is a truly magnificent restaurant which is a perfect retreat to relax with friends and enjoy GOOD food.

Cafe Del Sol Botanica is the second restaurant under the Cafe del Sol franchise. Cafe del Sol Classico in Olivedale opened in 2007 and quickly became a favourite amongst Italian foodies.

We got to sample a few wonderful dishes on the day and I was very impressed with all the food that was presented. My favourite had to be the risotto and the gnocchi, they were just too divine! Whilst Italian cuisine is their specialty I really would recommend to anyone that loves good food to go and try out this beautiful restaurant. I was also given a little milk tart to take home and it was one of the best milk tarts I have ever had!! You can check out their full menu HERE

Like the original Café del Sol in Olivedale, Botanico is very much a family affair in the tender care of Chiara, her brother Ryan, and mother Luciana. As Chiara says, “Nature and fine food have much in common. They are both about nurturing and nourishing and they both have a beneficial effect on mind and body. For us, cooking is about love, abundance, bonding and sharing – cooking for our guests is our way of expressing that.”

Café del Sol has also recently introduced the “Anyone can cook with Café del Sol” program where amateur cooks get to experience a day in the life of a chef in a professional kitchen.

The Landmark bar joins onto Cafe del Sol and is the ultimate go to spot for cocktails in Joburg.

This is not merely a traditional bar – it is what the Italians call an Aperitivo Bar. In Italy, between the hours of before they move on to dinner, people enjoy aperitivo. It’s all about tuning the palate and whetting the appetite – it’s about tempting “little bites” that accompany an amaro - a traditional liqueur made from herbs. It’s also about chatting, laughing, meeting people and making friends.

Whilst the cocktails are rather pricey, you are paying for only the top quality ingredients. The award winning mixologists are there to help you make the right cocktail choice and chat to you about all things drinkable!!
There is also an extensive wine list which has been carefully selected to include some of the most well-known and not so well-known wine estates. If you aren't into cocktails or wine then you will be pleased to note that there is also a craft beer menu which rotates every 3 months to offer you something new and exciting
There are long tables in the bar section as well as cozy couches near the fire places. This chic and classy bar is just what the sophisticated nightlight crowd has been looking for!
"The décor and intention was inspired by classic Landmarks throughout Johannesburg, from the Rissik Street post office to Vilakazi Street. Landmarks that have stood the test of time and are very dear to local Joburgers, not to mention, our respect for classic cocktails which are just as old if not older."

A huge thank-you to both Cafe del Sol and The Landmark Cocktail Bar for looking after us and talking to us all about your passion. I very much enjoyed my experience and will DEFINITELY be back to try some more delicious meals off the menu and of course a cocktail at the bar!
